These songs were created by 9th grade students at New Design High School in NYC. The class, Music Production, is a program of Urban Arts Partnership and taught by teaching artist, Jules Gimbrone. Meeting once a week over the course of the semester, students gain skills to produce, edit, and mix their own songs using the program Garageband. Simultaneously, students investigate themes of identity, and write poetry that explores the effects of stereotypes. Students then record and mix their poems into their instrumental tracks.
